Simone
Parker (Gravett)
I started my fashion design journey without worrying about where I would end up. I grew up in Queensland and I’m now living and studying in Perth. I started studying fashion out of frustration which grew from trying to find garments that enhanced the body and weren’t from the ‘one style fits most’ mass production business model. Garments that expressed who we are as Australians, and our relaxed lifestyle, not just cheap copies of what appeared on northern hemisphere runways the season before. My designs embody my fascination with cloth, (which may border on obsession, truth be told), my love of handcraft, and a deep understanding of the female form and how to enhance it through tailoring and craftsmanship. This, coupled with my passion for slow fashion in all its multifaceted iterations and the desire to design and produce garments here in Australia, fundamentally reconfirmed for me that producing more of the same is simply not my aspiration. Instead, I am relishing the learning process with a quiet confidence that I am doing what I am meant to be doing and that opportunity and success will follow. Couture with a vintage edge!
