My passion for millinery is a natural extension of my fashion and theatrical background with the Australian Ballet Company and the love of stitching passed on to me from my mother. I dedicate myself to unique pieces. I love invention and infuse my work with fun and drama, making it desirable for photographers and stylists. I was the winner of both the 2021 Millinery Australia Design Award and the 2021 Stephen Jones Patrons Pick Award. I have taught fashion and millinery at several leading colleges in Victoria. I still have a love for learning and I am always on the lookout for a new skill to add to my repertoire. My inspiration for this piece, is the gates at Flemington, I then gave thought to who I would like to see as a fantasy ambassador to the cup. I chose Princess Leia for her femininity ,strength and independence which I feel makes her a perfect role model for women today. For this piece I set myself a challenge: to not purchase any new textiles, threads or construction items. Having been a millinery artist for many years, I feel I have a responsibility to reduce my carbon footprint. wherever possible. This sometimes leads to both design considerations and alterations, but they don’t impact the quality of the outcome. One of my favourite things about creating for this competition is that I can be flexible with my design. Often inspiration comes during the creative process leading to organic changes . It’s wonderful to be able to go with the flow. I hope you enjoy my piece as much as I enjoyed creating it and presenting it to you. I wish all competitors the best of luck and I hope the Carnival is a success for Sponsors, Punters and of course The Fashionistas,
